"photography when it really matters"
Choosing a photographer at a wedding is about as important as the venue and the date and probably only just behind choice of the groom!
The reason is that your photographer will probably spend most of their time with you up close and personal on your most important day so you need to get on with them.
Getting the photographs you want is important but the way the photographer goes about it is even more important!
So here are some tips.
1. Use a Professional - preferably one registered with a body like the BIPP or SWPP - avoid using a friend as it is a quick way to lose a friendship and they should be enjoying the wedding anyway!
2. Interview them - check their work, take a reference and find out exactly what is included in the price - beware of hidden extras (especially with package deals)- and make sure you get on with them!
3. Make sure they understand the time table for the day. You need to be on time at the Church and when your meal is ready - the staff at the hotel will have gone to a lot of trouble to make sure the meal is ready on time and you do not want to be late because the photographer has over run.
4. Check they are insured - if something goes wrong or if they injur someone at the wedding you do not want to be held responsible!
5.Brief your photographer - although no one can guarantee the weather or the exact shots that can be obtained give them a list of people and things you would like photographing so they can try and work those shots into the day.
6. Keep the photographer in the loop - tell them if things change and that includes even during the day itself - your professional photographer should be flexible and able to cope with any unexpected changes
Finally remember it is aboout your wedding and not about the photography so relax enjoy the day !
